On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Dallas Grosso sat for his Final Eagle Board and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout! He was escorted by Mr. Poholsky.
Dallas spoke about his project where he refurbished an area of the Hall of Heroes at the Street Community Center in memory of Pat Gallagher, female Marine from WWII. He also added a flag retirement box and sitting area for veterans to relax and play games. Dallas reflected on his project experience, and the work he did up front versus what was done at the work days. He enjoyed completing tasks along the way, and it gave him a sense of accomplishment and a broader scope of how much work the whole troop puts into Eagle projects. Dallas spoke about his leadership roles as Patrol Leader, ASPL, Quartermaster, and finally Senior Patrol Leader. SPL was his favorite role because he was able to make everyone feel welcome and connect older and younger scouts. He shared that through his leadership experiences his strength became servant leadership.
Dallas described his favorite Merit Badge experience being Cycling. He took it during Covid times, and he remembers what a great feeling it was to be outside, taking a bunch of different bike rides with some friends and leaders. He also remembers taking Life Saving because it helped him get over his fear of lake water, and Woodworking because it gave him the skills to eventually take on his Eagle Project. Dallas talked about one of his favorite backpacking trips. It was rainy, everything was wet, and they hung a tarp over the fire. They stood there talking in the rain almost the whole trip, but somehow it felt like “this is what Scouting is all about”.
He also spoke fondly about the troop’s recent beach camping trip. Dallas spoke honestly about how the Scouting program taught him better than school, and that he gained so much growth on trips and through events. He shared that he still has much more time in Scouting and would like to use it to keep giving back to Troop 97. Dallas is proud of Scouting and his place in it. He realizes how much he learned through his experiences and his eagle project. He will take his knowledge, along with what he plans to learn about investing and trading, and become an entrepreneur and business owner. His goal is to be able to take trips throughout his life like he did in his years as a scout.
Please join me in congratulating Dallas for achieving this milestone!
