On Saturday, April 20, 2024, Lorenzo Montesino sat for his Final Eagle Board and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout! He was escorted by Mr. Olson.
Lorenzo spoke about his project where he planned and constructed large storage units for musical instruments on the stage of Woodglen Elementary School. He led scouts and leaders in constructing, finishing, transporting, installing, and placing of instruments into these units at the school.
Lorenzo reflected on his leadership roles (Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Outdoor Ethics Guide, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader), and how each role taught him about effective communication, teamwork, and accountability. He remembers how being a Patrol Leader allowed him to build personal connections and patrol identity with his fellow scouts, especially at events like Klondike. He spoke about how being SPL was daunting at first, but became easier as he learned how to guide conversations at PLC meetings.
Lorenzo recounts his favorite trip on the Schooner, as he was able to earn the Rowing Merit Badge and spend time with friends. Lorenzo recognized how important the skills learned in Scouting are for life, especially cooking. He also remembers a particular fishing trip where they had to dig for worms to use as bait. He caught 8 fish that day and truly learned how a scout is thrifty. Lorenzo defines Scout Spirit as making him feel like he can do anything. Lorenzo’s volunteer mission trip to Guatemala helped to solidify his desire to go into the medical field.
His advice to new scouts is to stick with it and savor the adventure you are on at that very moment because it goes fast. He remembers being a young scout and cherishes all the rewarding experiences he had throughout his years. Lorenzo spoke fondly about how he cherishes all the leaders and scouts that helped to make his experiences in Scouting so memorable and meaningful.
Please join me in congratulating Lorenzo for achieving this milestone!
