Philmont 2022

Philmont Scout Ranch - BSA's Premier High Adventure Camp!

Troop 97 has been selected for a 12 person Crew with a 12 Day Trek for the Summer of 2022 at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico! Trek dates are July 25, 2022 - August 6, 2022. We have begun the Crew selection and planning for this once in a lifetime experience!

If you would like to join Troop 97 Crew #725-108 at Philmont in the Summer of 2022 you'll need to act fast. Please send an email expressing your interest to Mr Olson at jimolson04@gmail.com by January 25.

We would like to have final selection completed in the next couple of months. The approximate total cost of this High Adventure Trip is $2100. Upon being selected to the Crew a fee of $150.00 will be due immediately. Further payments will be discussed upon selection.

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of mil

es of rugged, rocky trails. Our Crew will get to select our Trek from a list of 35 different itineraries to include up to 80 miles backpacking and 10 nights camping. Each day will consist of other adventures for example: Rifle Shooting, Climbing, Burro Riding, Horseback Riding, Land Nav, Rappelling, Branding, Western Lore, Challenge Events & Hiking Mount Baldy to name a few.

More information can be found at www.philmontscoutranch.org

All participants must at the time of departure be 14 yrs old or have completed the 8th grade and 13 yrs old. Participant must complete parts A, B & C of the BSA medical form. Each person will be required to complete all BSA & travel waivers. Attend all Crew meetings and shakedowns. Make Payments on time. Meet all Philmont participant requirements.

Again, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to challenge oneself and experience the great adventures Philmont has to offer. T

There is limited space and if more eligible Scouts sign up for the trip than permitted we will apply the following criteria to determine priority of acceptance:

1.) Demonstrate Scout Spirit. Scouts who are active in the troop will have priority over those who are not active. "Active" is generally defined as having participated in at least 50% of troop meetings, activities, backpacks, hikes, service projects and campouts in the recent year (Covid having disrupted our program will not be a negative factor in consideration, as long as scouts have remained active virtually and otherwise as defined by our troop participation standards)

2.) Rank advancement.

3.) Some preference will be give

n to older Scouts because younger scouts will presumably have other opportunities for high adventure before they complete their scouting careers.

4.) Adult Participants: Limited to 3 adults who are active (as defined for Scouts) will have priority. Adults must be registered with BSA as adult leaders and have completed BSA required leader training including Wilderness Survival and CPR as required by Philmont.
